Statistics:
- For 2003, roughly $12.7 million of counterfeits were passed comparied to $5 million the previous year.
- The balk of fake money comes mostly in $10 and $20.
- Fewer the 10 counterfeit versions of the new $100 bill in the first three circulations.
- The bank of Canada plans to re-issue a$10 bill next year and is still studying whether it will put out a new $5 bill.
- The $5 and $10 bills have the lowest life-span, lasting only one to two years on average.
- There was a huge increase of 72% in counterfeiting crimes in
2003, bringing counterfeiting up to the sixth largest crime category in Canada
